The Jesuit Refugee Service was founded in 1980 in Rome, as an international catholic organisation. In view of the growing number of refugees in Belgium, JRS Belgium was set up in 2001 as the bilingual Belgian section of the JRS. They work with a network of volunteers mainly helping in closed centres and return houses. They help people who are present in the detention centres and in the return houses in Belgium. The detainees can come to them with their anger, sadness, uncertainty and questions about the future.
