Created in 2010, the identity association BIG MAMA aims to help and show active solidarity with LGBTQIA+ (lesbian, gay, bi, trans, queer, intersex and +) people, victims of LGBTQI-phobia, whatever their age, without condition and everywhere in Togo. It campaigns for human rights, the rights of LGBTQIA+ people.
BIG MAMA is based in Lomé, the Togolese capital, and intervenes in other secondary cities and especially with target populations in remote areas (not having the possibility to participate in the usual activities in big cities). Its mission is to listen, help and accompany LGBTQIA+ people and victims of LGBTQIA-phobias, to raise awareness of the fight against LGBTQIA-phobias, to promote the visibility and acceptance of LGBTQIA+ people, to fight against stigmatisation and discrimination, against HIV, violence and blackmail. In addition, it works to improve the living environment and access to appropriate prevention, training, empowerment, capacity building, treatment and care services, etc., and to improve the living conditions of the targeted populations as well as the provision of appropriate services in the health, human rights and social sectors.
Its motto: Solidarity, Inclusion, Diversity.
